Week 4 of 52 – A Slice Of My Life

They say that whatever happens happens for a reason. Maybe they say this because they want to stay hopeful. Because the only to keep living is to be hopeful.

But I think that the truth is that things just happen without any rhyme or reason. They just happen. And we become storytellers, we tell ourselves stories about what happened, make ourselves believe in the reason behind it and believe in those stories we tell ourselves so strongly that for us that becomes the truth.

You can agree with it or deny it but that is how I see it.

For anyone who wants to hope, dream and cannot accept what I am saying, I’d say please keep hoping.

As I look back at the week 3 of 2024, it feels a 100 days long and a 1000 days away and also yesterday (literally).

I lost someone, a father figure, in a sudden turn of events.

When I first moved to Navi Mumbai in 2014, all I had to do was call him and tell him that I was coming. I had not seen him in 15+ years but that did not matter. Even on my day 1 he (and my didi) made me feel like I was home. This is where I felt like home more than anywhere else. We used to have chai and talk about random things. There were days when it was just two of us for lunch and on one such occasion we decided to make bati. It was rock solid and we laughed about it for hours. There were times he offered me pocket money… I a 26yo working woman was a little girl for him. The last time I went home he asked me if I wanted the rajasthani style aloo pyaaz ki sabji and then he boiled the potatoes in cooker for me. It’s not that he was nice to me. He was nice to everyone and he was fun. I hate using the past tense here and now it is what it is. He’d have hated to see me cry and would have just said let’s have thodi thodi chai.

Rest in peace, Kaka ❤

I’ll still update you about all the other things that happened this week.

READING

As you know I’ve been reading Crying in the Hmart and this week it was difficult to read it because this book is a memoir which also deals with death.

I will pause this book and start another one for now.

EATING

At the start of the week I was determined to eat healthier food and I had a lot of banana strawberry protein smoothie. Mostly because it is filling AND yummy. However, towards the end of the week I had a lot of food outside and I did not click enough pictures.

I also tried making some latte art this week.

WATCHING

I watched the movie Fighter and loved it. I loved that the story did not glorify a single ‘hero’. I loved that Deepika not only had screentime, her story was important. I also loved the music and the dialogues in the second half of the movie.

We finished watching Let’s eat, the Thai drama. Towards the end of the drama there wasn’t enough food and the ending was messy and rushed.

This weekend’s movie was You’ve Got A Mail. I remember loving this movie as a teenager but when I watched it now it was just okay. The dialogues are okay, the storyline is not interesting anymore and the ending feels rushed. I think this is also the result of normalisation of Social media. In this day and age talking to a stranger on internet doesn’t feel as exciting as it used to all those years ago.

INTERESTING

I cut my own hair and made a tutorial video for it.

CREATING

I think I shot one of my most aesthetic and quality video for reel.

SHOPPING

I will not have a week after week shopping update but I do have something for this week.

I saw these at the store and fell in love. They did not have it in my size so I ordered online and they were delivered in a day.

This week is going to be a mixed bag, we start our travel on Thursday (odd, right?).

Anyway, what was the highlight of your week?
